Real Residents, Real Homes #2

Abi, @Notnineteenforver lives with her boyfriend Tom in an Ellesmere property in Highfield Green. She was kind enough to answer our questions on turning their house into a home!

Real Residents, Real Homes #2 Meet Abi.

What made you choose a Simple Life Home?

Myself and my partner had been looking for a rental property for months, I would always be put off properties by the decor and interior so when we came across Simple Life Homes I was over the moon. Our development is brand new therefore I knew I’d be getting a clean slate, the interior is modern and tasteful with the added bonus of having the likes of our ‘white goods’ included. Who wouldn’t want to move into a new build property?!

What’s your favourite room in the house?

This question is easy… the Kitchen! It’s such a bright and spacious room, the light just floods through the double doors and skylights meaning on a sunny day we have sunlight from morning to evening. We also have plenty of cupboard and worktop space as well as a good size dining area to socialise in.

Best home-hacks to personalise your space?

Choose what you are drawn to, not what you think you have to buy because it’s the ‘in thing’ at the moment. Your home is a place to display your taste and style so just go for it, if you buy something and then can’t find a home for it – return it. I’d also say there’s no rush when it comes to dressing your space, take your time to decide and wait until you are 100% happy with your decision – I’m the worst for changing my mind last minute.

How would you describe your interior style? Does this reflect your personality?

My interior style most definitely matches my personality, I’m quite unique and very creative meaning I like to think outside of the box when it comes to my decor. I don’t worry about being ‘stylish’ and what others may think, it’s our home and I like to be surrounded by items that make our home feel homely. I’m also not scared to put my own stamp on things, I enjoy personalising items to ensure I achieve the outcome desired.

What is a good way of using lights on your room?

My favourite light is natural light and our home thankfully doesn’t lack that, we have windows in every single room of the house so during summer time I love having all the blinds open and won’t turn any lights on until I need to. However in winter time I like to have all the blinds closed and plenty of warm and cosy lighting in the house.

I like lamps, fairy lights and under-cupboard lighting as none of these are overbearing. Lighting can be a big feature within a room too, in our hallway for example I have purchased two large lantern style light shades which fill the blank canvas perfectly.

What are your tips for decorating your home on a budget?

Be patient and shop around until you find something that matches your budget, there will pretty much always be a cheaper alternative somewhere! I love nothing more than finding a bargain and then telling everyone about how cheap it was or how good of a deal I got, it’s like an achievement to me – sad I know!
