Building Friendships and Sustainable Communities – The Joshua Tree Charity

charity

It is all about people and long term partnerships, engaging, talking and striving to make a positive difference and impact through this engagement. It is about listening and not presuming to know or imparting any corporate rhetoric on others. It is simply about doing what we can to support strong and sustainable communities, where people and place are firmly at the heart of decision making. People caring for and about other people – in essence kindness. Kindness is contagious, it has a ripple effect. It fosters cohesion and support, and promotes a real sense of belonging. It strengthens communities enabling them to thrive, connect and grow. There is trust, togetherness and cooperation. It feels great and everyone benefits.

As Social Impact & Sustainability Director with Simple Life Homes and Sigma Capital Group, my remit is clear “Make people’s lives better or a little but easier by what we do as a business” with a keen focus on the areas where we operate across the country and a target to support a broad demographic range. As part of my role, I get to meet the most amazing and inspiring people making an enormous difference to the lives of so many people in our communities. Over the years we have partnered with many incredible people and groups.

We connected with The Joshua Tree through a Simple Life resident nomination to receive a small Christmas gift in 2023 and from there the friendship and partnership grew. Engaging with our residents in this way is so important to us as they know best what is needed in their local communities. I have enjoyed visits to The Joshua Tree, meeting the team, seeing the work they do and the enormous impact this has, and discussing how we as a business can support their wonderful work. Making direct contact, allows one to feel and see the passion, commitment and dedication of all involved, and learn from them what is needed. Support is all about community and people, and as a business where people are at the very heart, supporting charities like The Joshua Tree makes perfect human sense. We support because we are in a position to do so, we want to make a positive difference, it is the right thing to do, and it makes sense.  It really is that simple. I continue to be in awe of all those at The Joshua Tree, and all the charities, groups and clubs we support. Their care, love and support is appreciated by so many, and the impact is far greater than we can ever truly know. Like all who support others, it is about making a positive impact and difference where we can. We look forward to continuing to build our friendship in the years ahead.

We are delighted and excited for the team at The Joshua Tree as they prepare for September’s arrival of Nick Knowles and the DIY SOS team, partnering with BBC One’s Morning Live, and a host of volunteers to deliver this year’s BBC Children in Need build. The build will extend the charity’s facilities to accommodate more children and their families, all of which will help give young people and their families the crucial support they need to improve their mental and physical health and wellbeing and reduce isolation.

Simple Life have loved supporting a broad range of events and activities including their London to Chester Zoo Walk; Christmas Carols at Chester Cathedral; Padel and Golf fundraising days; and  look forward to continued growth in our partnership and joining families on their upcoming Walk Tall Event.
